Growing conditions:
Challenging! 2015: Early budbreak and erratic temperature swings. No frost, but cool, windy weather during bloom led to shatter in many varieties. Early harvest with excellent quality due to tiny berry size, while yields were miniscule due to on-going drought and poor set.

Winemaking:
After hand harvesting, the grapes were crushed into our stainless rotary fermentor, then 48 hours later inoculated with RX-60 yeast. The must was rotated every hour for 13 days. After pressing and settling and completion of malo-lactic fermentation, the wines were aged for 24 months in French and Hungarian barrels prior to bottling.

Tasting notes:
Intriguing aromas of spring rose petals and ripe blueberry predominate with subtle oak notes in the background. This wine has layers of supple round tannins and toasty oak followed by an extended, rich finish.

Cellaring:
While enjoyable now, this elegant Syrah will continue to improve with proper cellaring for another 4-7 years in the bottle with a plateau of best drinkability from 2022-2026.

Food selection:
This Syrah will enhance a large array of Mediterranean cuisine with a particular affinity for elegant flavor-forward courses. We feel spring lamb is an excellent match.
