Growing conditions:
Finally! 2012 had relatively normal conditions, minimal April frost, warm to hot days/cool nights in July and August then a mild Indian summer in late Sept/early Oct. Early indications are that the 2012 is the best vintage since 2007 and possibly the famous 1997 vintage.

The grapes were hand harvested, destemmed and crushed into a stainless fermentor, then inoculated 24 hours later with D80 yeast. The must was pumped over twice daily for 11 days prior to pressing. After completion of malolactic fermentation, this wine was aged in Hungarian & American oak barrels for 20 months prior to bottling.

Tasting notes:
Intense, explosive aromas of blackberries,with notes of raspberry and unsweetened chocolate. Elegant tannins with vibrant berry flavors complimented with spicy oak and a lingering rich finish.

While delightful now, this concentrated Zinfandel will continue to develop in the bottle with proper cellaring for another 4-6 years with a plateau of best drinkability from 2015-2019.

Food selection:
We believe this Zinfandel enhances any number of meals with rich sauces (especially red). It continues to be our favorite red wine with seafood.
