Growing conditions:
Another drought year with 90% of our total rainfall occurring during the last week of January. An unusual frost in late May resulted in a smaller fruit set. The lighter crop coupled with a long warm summer led to the earliest finish to harvest at Victor Hugo with a smaller harvest with excellent quality.

Winemaking:
All of the grapes were hand harvested and then whole cluster pressed while still cool. The juice was chilled overnight prior to barreling to ferment in seasoned French oak barrels, this rose was aged on its lees passively prior to blending allowing bottling with minimal filtration.

Tasting notes:
Enticing aromas of kiwi and cherries predominate with some subtle hints of citrus in the background. This wine has a somewhat fleshy, supple mid-palate followed by a clean, crisp finish.

Cellaring:
No need for lengthy aging. This delightful wine is designed to be consumed while young and fresh. While traditionally chosen for warm spring and summer days, this wine will enhance all classic fall and winter holiday feasts.

Food selection:
As you might have surmised from the reference above, we feel this is the wine for all poultry courses, salmon and sundry appetizers. It is wonderful with picnic or sit-down lunches, serving well as the soup or appetizer course wine for multi-course dinner events.
